2017 Sure is starting off with a lot of promise! There are more new series coming out this month (like Beyond and Z: The Beginning of Everything), but these are the four new tv series that I’m looking forward the most to watch.
Emerald City | January 6th
1 hr | adventure, drama, mystery | Adria Arjona, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu
With Shadowhunters and The Shannara Chronicles not being all that (still watching, though), I really needed a new adventure series to add to my watchlist and this re-imagined version of the Wizard of Oz looks pretty cool! Lot’s of action, danger and magic…sign me up!
Taboo | January 7th
drama | Tom Hardy, Oona Chaplin, Jonathan Pryce
Tom Hardy. Need I say more? Alright, alright c; I can’t wait to start with Taboo, not only because Tom Hardy ALWAYS delivers (and is everything), but also because he was a writer for this series. I’m very curious to see how his visions will translate to the small screen. For Taboo he teamed up with his father Chip Hardy, Steven Knight (Peaky Binders) and two Scandinavian directors with quite some notches under their belt: Anders Engström and Kristoffer Nyholm. If I trust anyone to make a thrilling series, it’s the Scandinavians! Apart from that, the trailer just looks insanely good and the cast on Taboo is quite impressive!
A Series of Unfortunate Events | January 13th
50 min | adventure, drama, family | Neil Patrick Harris, Malina Weismann, Louis Hynes
I am SO excited for this series! Like many others, I loved the 2004 movie with Jim Carrey and Emily Browning (girl crush!) as a child and I always thought it was such a shame that there weren’t any sequels made. But it seems our childhood dreams will be fulfilled, now that Netflix picked up the opportunity to make a series out of it! I have high hopes for this series, because Netflix releases some pretty good quality stuff! Judging by the trailer, it has great atmospheric cinematography, an amazing set design and a great cast. Yes, yes, I know what you’re thinking: “But Tiff, I can’t imagine someone other than Jim Carrey playing Count Olaf. Jim IS Count Olaf!”. I know, I know, but NPH is a very talented and charismatic actor and I am sure that we will have forgotten all about The-Other-Count-Olaf after the first episode c;
“But Tiff, that’s what you said about Ben Affleck playing Batma-…” *presses finger to readers lips* Shhh, hush now…
Frontier | January 20th
1 hr | adventure | Jason Momoa, Landon Liboiron, Zoe Boyle
Another Netflix original. Netflix is on fire! Now, the trailer didn’t tell me a lot about the story, but apparently it’s about the power struggle around the fur trade in North America in the late 18th century. Frontier is actually the first scripted series ordered by Discovery, which is why it grabbed my attention. Vikings was History Channel’s first scripted order and that turned out to be a great show! Also, our Khal Jason Momoa being in it is a very nice bonus (if he can carry the show as main protagonist)!
What are your most anticipated shows for this month? Let me know in the comments c; (comments)
