I Listened To…

A Court of Thorns and Roses part 1 & 2 by Sarah J. Maas  ★★★★☆

It had been a quite while since I last listened to an audiobook and after reading listening to ACOTAR I realized why: I just hadn’t found the right book(s)! I had ACOTAR on my Storytel bookshelf for a while and out of sheer desperation for a new book to lose myself in, I just put it on. And I’m glad I did, because ACOTAR is one of those series that will be one of my favorites for the rest of my life. The last two series that ignited the fangirl in me that much were Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, so you can imagine how great it was to lose myself in another series like that again!

Speaking of audiobooks: I sometimes catch myself saying that I’m reading a book, in stead of listening to it (my boyfriend likes to correct me on that one!). I also saw an interesting poll about it on Goodreads. But for me, reading a book and listening to the audiobook are the same thing! Because whether I am reading or listening to a book, I enjoy it just as much. A big bonus for me is that I sometimes have a problem with winding down when I know there’s dishes waiting for me in the kitchen or when there’s laundry to be done -adulting sucks sometimes!-. And now I can enjoy a book while doing those tedious things 🙂 I’ve said this (MANY times) before, but audiobooks are such an enrichment to my life! I can definitely recommend Storytel if you’re looking for an audiobook provider other than Audible.

Some friends and I had been talking about going on a trip together for a while and when we found a very inexpensive flight to Milan for only €43,- (including the return flight!) in the week before Christmas, we decided to just do it! Since I couldn’t get any extra time off from work, we booked an evening flight for Tuesday and a return flight for Thursday evening. That way we could take advantage of my scheduled free Wednesday and Thursday. That would give us around 36 hours of Milan adventures! Or something like that… for all intensive purposes I will just say 36 hours haha!

So I took my trolley to work on Tuesday and went straight to Schiphol airport after to catch our flight to Milan Malpensa. About one and a half hours later -around 22:30 pm-, we arrived at Malpensa airport. We were prepared for cold weather, but holy frack! It was SO MUCH colder than in The Netherlands! After asking directions to Milan Central Station, we decided to take a direct bus for €8,-. We arrived at our destination an hour later.

Where We Stayed

We stayed at Hotel Aosta, which is very conveniently located right across from Milan Central Station! We had a room with three single beds and great view of the Station. The room was very well kept and clean and the beds were very comfortable! The en suit bathroom also had everything to suit our needs. The staff was very friendly as well. What more does one need when on a city trip?

What We Saw + Did

We woke up nice and early the next day, so we could see as much of the city as humanly possible. And we did just that! Here are some snapshots from the highlights.

Happy New Year, guys! I don’t know how it is for you, but for me a new year means a clean slate. Time to set new goals and work towards becoming the happiest version of yourself! Big bonus for the organization geeks like me: January 1st of 2018 is on A MONDAY! And we all know that Monday is the best day of the week to start a new habit, amiright?!

Speaking of a clean slate, you might have noticed that the blog has undergone a little make-over: a new name and a new look. For a while I’ve felt like I couldn’t really identify with The Little Cinephile anymore. Not because I stopped loving watching movies and series (that will never happen!), but because last year my interests have shifted more towards travel and food. So I wanted a name that wouldn’t restrict me too much in terms of blog content and that encompasses me as a person. So I came up with The Little Wanderer! “Wanderer” is exactly how I would describe myself in one word. Not only because I am looking for my place in this world, but also because I love to explore new places and things. I am very happy with this change, I hope you like it too!

That being said, let’s get into my goals for 2018!

My Goals for 2018

Alright, I’m calling it…Winter is here! When I woke up this morning, I woke up to a mini snowstorm and a beautiful white winter wonderland. And the snow just keeps falling! Though a little part of me is worried how I will get to work tomorrow, watching the snow fall makes sitting on the couch in my pajamas that much more cozy. You know what days like these call for? Some nice winter comfort food! One of my favorite winter dishes is a Dutch classic called andijviestamppot. This literally translates to “endive mash pot”. This dish is basically just mashed potatoes with raw endive mixed in. While there’s many different variations of stamppot (like with kale or even with fruits!), andijviestamppot is definitely my favorite. It’s so comforting after coming home from a cold commute! It’s not only delicious, but fairly quick and easy to make too!
